the happiest place on earth
The New Economics Foundation, a British NGO, declared Costa Rica the happiest—and most environmentally friendly—nation on the planet.
In a recent poll, the foundation studied nearly 150 countries and applied an equation that weighed life expectancy and reported happiness against a country’s environmental footprint. According to the New Economics Foundation’s algorithm, Costa Rica scored the highest, followed by the Dominican Republic.
Overall, Latin America fared very well, occupying nine of the ten top spots. Western nations, with the exception of 3rd-place Australia, ranked low. America came in at 114th on the list.
What do you think? Is there a direct correlation between happiness and environmental impact?
